Rev. Zhenya Gurina-Rodriguez is a PhD student in New Testament and Early Christianity at Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, TX. She minors in Hebrew Bible and takes special interest in Second Temple Judaism. She is an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church at Rio Texas Annual Conference.
Originally Zhenya is from Russia. Zhenya was born in USSR, lived in Ukraine and Russia. She graduated from Voronezh State University with BA and MA in linguistics and cross-cultural communication. She came to the U.S. in 2006 with a goal of becoming a PhD in Biblical Studies. She served as a pastor at Nueva Vida UMC in Fort Worth, TX from 2008 to 2012. She has graduated with MDiv and ThM from Brite Divinity School and is currently writing her dissertation.
Zhenya’s experience of being a world citizen has reflected on her areas of particular interest. She has engaged in the topics of social justice, wealth and poverty, eco-justice, gender relations, and the use of the Bible in the construction of power relations in the world.
Zhenya is married to Edwin Rodriguez and they have a son Theodore Rodriguez. They reside in Benbrook, TX with their six rescue pups – Buddy, Rusty, Eddy, Kyra, Izabel, and Foster.
